Parents' and students' personal experiences with the Kumon program at our Center:
Just wanted to thank you for the all efforts that you put in Vanshika and Kartik. We did not realize in the US how much they are learning. However, now they are back in India and now we are seeing the edge they have over other students. Just wanted to let you know that the efforts you put in these kids are really paying off now and will really help us settle in India. - Parent of Vanshika and Kartik
I initially went to Kumon to get some quick help with some learning I wanted my daughter to have before she started another program, but after learning about what the Kumon Program entailed and how well organized the program is for students, I decided that this was the right program for our family and both our children’s education. - Thank you Kumon of Redmond, From Two Very Satisfied Parents of Two
Just to let you know Reilly received a 4 in 6th grade math!! Only 3 were given out for the three 6th grade classes!! It has given her a lot of confidence that has transferred over to her other studies. Her report card was the best in all of 6th grade!! Wow!! We want to thank you and your staff for your help and direction with Reilly. She looks forward to school and has set her sights to a honors program in junior high. - Parent of Reilly, sixth-grader
My son has physical and learning disabilities, as well as visual perception problems. He was an excellent student in spite of these problems, but wasn't able to read at grade level or retain math facts. All school material was given to him orally and he graduated high school with a 3.7 GPA and successfully completed a two-year community college program. However, after numerous efforts he made no significant progress in math or reading. As a last resort, we enrolled him in Kumon in an attempt to give him one final shot at gaining improvement in these important life skills. Kumon's patient reinforcement is definitely working and his progress has been remarkable. He is acquiring useable skills in both areas. - Parent of Nick P.
After I started Kumon everything changed. Before I hated math. I started Kumon and I loved math. It was my best subject. It has kept me focused. I never thought this would happen to me. My mom says if I join swimming, I have to quit an activity and immediately I say "Not Kumon". I say that because if so I will fail in math and won't like it anymore. - Aneesha M., Kumon student, age 9
What other Kumon parents have to say:
"When Joi first started Kumon, she was not very confident in math. Over the last 10 months, her skill level and her confidence have gone up dramatically... The Kumon method of building mastery has been a big success for Joi!" - Janice Payton, parent of Joi, age 8. Enrolled since 2/1/06
"When I started looking for a house I wanted to make sure I was close to a Kumon. - Kwavi Agbeyegbe, parent of Junior Kumon student, Weyimi, age 3. Enrolled since 6/1/06
What other Kumon students have to say:
"Kumon has made math fun!" - Arielle, age 10, Kumon student since 6/1/06
"After I started Kumon, I found that I could do much better at math and reading. I could do math much faster and understand paragraphs because of reading. I not only did them much faster, but I also got better grades on those subjects. Most importantly is that I had more confidence in what I did. I had more time to work on other subjects, and when I had a test, I had to study very little." - Selma Rodrigues, after completing 4 years of Kumon
"Kumon helped me in math and reading. Now I can read books all by myself. In school, I'm in the top of the Number Club." - Aayush, age 7. Enrolled since 5/1/05
"Dear Kumon, Thanks for all the support in math. Before I took Kumon I hated math, and I was in the lower level in math. But now I am in the higher math class. Also now math is my favorite subject. Thanks a ton!" - Katie, age 14. Enrolled since 3/1/02
"I began Kumon when I was in third grade because of my interest in math. Because of Kumon, I am a few years ahead of my math class, and I can accurately and quickly solve math problems." - Emil, age 13. Enrolled since 10/1/01
"I am seventeen now, and Kumon is still a part of my everyday life. When I was seven, Kumon started me out by reviewing how to count to 100. Now that I'm seventeen, it shows me the tricks of integral calculus. Kumon has revealed the secrets of mathematics for the past 10 years, placing me at the head of all my math classes. Kumon has also taught me much more than just math. The cornerstone of the Kumon Program is daily work. Ten years of doing worksheets every day (well, okay, almost every day) has taught me how to commit myself to a cause. 'Slow and steady wins the race.' That truth has been implanted in my brain. I have learned to have patience with myself and give myself time to learn new ideas. I don't shun hard academic work; I have learned to welcome academic challenge." - Michael, age 17. Enrolled since 2/1/96
"Kumon helped me to not use my fingers. It also helped me be more independent. Even though it's not as advanced as at school. It really helps me." - Julie, age 9. Enrolled since 4/1/05
"My favorite subject in school is math. I like Kumon because it is fun to do. I do my Kumon every morning before I go to school. Kumon has helped me to get 100 on all my math tests so far." - Stetson, age 7. Enrolled since 2/1/05
"I first enrolled in Kumon when I was 5, through the years Kumon has educated me in many priceless study skills... Though the process was long and excruciatingly painful, all the hard work and devotion was well worth it... Every child's potential is limitless, how much work they do may be another story. Kumon is a breeding ground for potential, it will help bring out the best in a student. This program worked its magic for me and I am forever grateful." - Wayne, age 16. Enrolled since 11/15/95
"Kumon is a great way to advance one's full potential. I believe Kumon is helping me to achieve my goal of becoming an engineer." - Nicholas, age 15. Enrolled since 4/21/00
"Kumon is helpful in school. I already know the work from Kumon so it's easy and I don't have to struggle." - Lauren, age 9. Enrolled since 7/21/04
"Kumon has helped me a lot. It taught me how to try my best and how to concentrate." - Brittany, age 10. Enrolled since 2/1/06
"Because of Kumon, I don't have to spend as much time studying for math exams anymore. This is really great because it gives me more time to do lots of other things." - Nupur, age 14. Enrolled since 2/1/02
At times, like other families, the dedicated commitment to keep Davin, Ben and Anna, our three elementary age children, in Kumon was a challenge. Busy sports schedules, extended vacations, school homework etc, would seem to offer legitimate reasons to take Kumon off the daily "to do" list. However, now as a parent of three accomplished alumni, I am forever grateful we kept our children in the Kumon program for all of their elementary years. The obvious benefit was of course strong math grades. In addition, we as parents have also discovered how Kumon helped them establish a solid foundation of life skills. The discipline of daily math worksheets, the determination to solve even the tough math problems and the dedication and excitement of reaching for, and attaining the next goal all have positively impacted and molded their most impressionable young years. The success and accomplishment they experienced in math reinforced their self-confidence to strive in other subjects. The logic and reasoning used in math carried over to other decision-making situations. Tough times, like tough math problems, were viewed as opportunities to learn something new. As a result of the discipline, determination and dedication reinforced through the Kumon program, Davin, Ben and Anna, have all become motivated successful students with high personal standards and expectations. However, the best affirmation for us as parents is that Davin, who is now in college, Ben, who is now in high school, and Anna, who is now in junior high are all very glad they were a part of the Kumon program. They themselves see the benefit, they themselves see the impact and they too are grateful they are Kumon alumni. Davin, Ben and Anna all received the Kumon (G by 5) "Algebra Before Junior High" Award.
Before we enrolled Isha in the Kumon Program we were very worried about her academic progress in her school. Her teacher complained about her concentration and confidence and she was getting grades of 2 (below her standard) in reading and math. After 7 months of exposure to Kumon and regular practice, she has grades of 3 throughtout and we are hoping her practice will bring her to above standard level.
He moved quickly through addition, subtraction, and multiplication (Kumon levels A, B & C). This year, in third grade, he no longer struggles on the daily timed facts tests. In fact, he has achieved 100% on almost every one. He is now on Kumon level D and ahead of where he is working in school. He is so excited, because now he is known in class as the student who is the best and the fastest at division. They have contests in class, and everyone always wants to be on his team! He now has a great deal of confidence in math. My son has physical and learning disabilities, as well as visual perception problems. He was an excellent student in spite of these problems, but wasn't able to read at grade level or retain math facts. All school material was given to him orally and he graduated high school with a 3.7 GPA and successfully completed a two-year community college program.
