Role of the Kumon Instructor:

Kumon instructors are trained and certified in the Kumon Method to serve an indispensable role in your child's development in the program.  From determining an appropriate starting point and gauging your child's progress through the program, to setting goals and motivating your child's continual advancement, the Kumon Instructor charts the surest course to your child's success.

  • Fine-tuning your child's advancement:  From Worksheet to Worksheet and curriculum level to curriculum level, the Kumon Instructor is able to customize the program precisely to your child's needs by continually calibrating the level and tempo of work given to his or her ability.  She can pinpoint any problems your child may encounter along the way and adjust the lesson plan accordingly.
  • Soliciting constant feedback:  By observing your chlid at work, reviewing homework, grading assignments, consulting with you regularly, and paying careful attential to what your child has to say, the Instructor is always keenly attuned to his or her particular needs in terms of the program.  Kumon Instructors are passionate about working with children and helping them realize their potential.
  • Setting goals with your child:  With Kumon, your child gains motivation not just by completing work independently, but also by taking an active role in setting his or her own goals for achievement.  The Instructor works closely with every student to set weekly and long-term goals.  Assuming a measure of responsibility engages and motivates the child, and informs the Instructor.
  • Helping you help your child:  Parents take an active role in Kumon, as daily assignments are completed at home.  Your child's Instructor is always on hand to guide you through the Kumon experience, help you understand your responsibilites in the program, and establish the correct dynamic between you, your child, and the Instructor that is so central to Kumon.

Instructor at Kumon of Redmond: Denise Ensign

Denise has completed Kumon's rigorous requirements to become a Certified Kumon Instructor.

She first became involved with the Kumon program when her sons were in elementary school after a friend insisted it was a requirement for her children's education. She was a "Kumon mom" for over five years and was a firm believer in the program long before taking over the Redmond Center.
